How the RAKing all started

RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) is not a new term.  RAKing has been going on for hundreds of years.  But, as time has gone by, RAK has become a thing of the past.  Nowadays, when something is free or too good to be true, we are scared and suspicious.  "What do you want?" is the first question that comes to our minds.  All too often we hear "nothing is free."  Well I plan on putting a spin on that.

A month or so ago I found a wallet.  It had more than enough cash in it to buy groceries for the month, a tank of gas and go away for the weekend.  Yeah....that kind of cash.  BUT....it also had a drivers license in it with a name and address of the person.  Without hesitation I drove to the address and delivered the wallet.

On the way home, I explained to my kids, if you find something that is not yours, you give it back.  They totally got it.  Later on when I told older adults about the wallet, I was in shock at their reaction.  Too many people asked why I did not keep the money.  Most of them argued that no one does good things like that anymore.....this is a dog eat dog world.....got to fend for yourself! How could I explain this to my kids so easily and to adults it was "a thing of the past."  This did not settle easy with me.

That is where my RAK idea came in.  One of those particular adults was adamant that I did the wrong thing by giving the money back.  He knew that I could have used it and thought it would have been okay if I kept it.  This is a well educated- hard, working, honest person, in my eyes.  My goal now is to do Random Acts of Kindness until this person receives one.  I will lay the stepping stones and will perform RAK through out my day but will not directly give a RAK to this person.  That is where YOU come in.  If you receive a RAK, you must pass it on.  If you want to start RAK on your own, go for it!  It you have time, share your RAK experience by emailing me at i.have.been.RAKd@gmail.com. I would like to share them on my blog and show everyone there is good out there and it can be contagious! Let start a RAK epidemic!

Feel free to use my card for your RAK.

HAPPY RAKing!!!
